WHY TEACH
Why You Join Teaching
You went for the interview, they asked you why you want to teach. Teaching is so stressful, why you want to teach? You give your reasons and you wait for their answers. You are given teaching position later. You might have not taught before. But you joined because of the pay, just like any other profession. You might also join because you really love teaching. Whichever group you are, you know yourself better.

No Office Politics
Some people join teaching because they are tired of office politics. And now with news that teaching is going to offer higher pay rise, more people are going to squeeze through the door. Pay increment going to be according to your performance. Good and bad. People who care about the monthly sure paycheck would probably need to take teaching seriously. How do they determine the performance of the teachers than? Are parents' feedback going to take into considerations or is it going to be students' academic results again? If the latter is the case, then life is going to be hard. How is the appraisal done? Will the principal be fair in giving appraisal? There are going to be politics. But that is not my concern, but it definitely will affect teaching indirectly and my children in the hands of teachers.

STRESS or NO STRESS?
If all is results, teachers would spend more time teaching the "TESTed" subjects. Music, Health Education, Social Studies and Arts are going to be 'neglected'. My children told me, 'always no music' or 'moral education not taught'. Such was the case when I was teaching too. As teachers, there are so many things to teach and how do you compare teachers' performance? Logically, the students' results. There were syllabus to finish, there were so many things to teach, but so little time with the students. Sometimes, the teachers have to 'steal' time from the 'not so important' subjects. Which are the 'not so important' subjects? That would be the non-examinable subjects. But they are essential topics that students must learn too. But what can the teacher do? The teachers have to teach, to handle disciplinary actions, to do duties, to mark books and any other added duties as assigned. Back home, the teacher needs to spend time with family. Single teachers go 'Pak tor'(dating), married teachers attend to families. Many times you need to bring your work back, otherwise you need to stay longer in school to complete your job. You need to prepare for your lessons as well. Nothing is easy if you want to do well in any profession. Do not just join teaching for easy paycheck and pay increment.
As always the case, there are always those who are not sure why they want to join, but they will say 'test the water', 'just try', and so on. But when you say just try , just testing out first, please be serious about the children in your hands.
